The First Abbasid Period Rulers were the abbasid caliphs. At a later part the governors of Egypt also ruled in Egypt. The The First Abbasid Period Rulers came to Egypt after the conquest of Egypt by the Abbasid. During the first period of rule the Abbasid Caliphs used to rule Egypt from Baghdad.
The First Abbasid Period Rulers used to appoint governors for ruling Egypt. Havign their capital of the caliphate in Baghdad it was not possible for them to rule Egypt directly. Some of the abbasid caliphs who ruled Baghdad and the Abbasid empire includes Abul Abbas As Saffah, Al Mansur, Al Mahdi, Al Hadi etc. Many of these caliphs were more interested in ruling out the Umayyad caliphate from their dynasty. Some of them also chose to conquer many new areas.
The First Abbasid Period Rulers also made remarkable changes in the economic, political and scoieal scenario. They made roads, paper mills and took up many building and planning works. Thi helped the ecomnomy of the country to flourish. Well known Abbasid caliphs of Baghdad during the first Abbasid period of rules in Egypt include AL Mahdi, Al Hadi, Harun Al Rashid, Al Amin, Al Mamum, Al Mutasim Al Wathiq, Al Mutawakkil, Al Muntasir and Al Mutazz. The First Abbasid Period Rulers ruled over Egypt up to the year 868.
During the later half of the ninth century the Abbasid caliphate started having problems among themselves regarding the control over the outlying parts of the dynasty. Egypt being one of the outlying areas of the dynasty also faced problems. At that time a Turkish ruler named Mohammad ibn Tulun became the governor of Egypt under the Abbasid rule. Seeing that he need no pay the tax income to Baghdad, he used the many for good reasons like irrigation and navy. This helpped Egypt to flourish. Later he declared himself as independent sultan of Egypt.

This was the firt time Egypt had its independent rule by any Islamic ruler.
The dynasty known as Tulunids Dynasty however, did not last long and in the year 905 the Abbasids again took over Egypt.
After that the Abbasids again ruled over Egypt for some times. To rule over Egypt the Abbasid Empire appointed many governments and used to receive tax income from Egypt. Thus the The First Abbasid Period Rulers were caliphs of Baghdad and in the second half of Abbasid rule the governors of Egypt actually become the ruler.
