The first privately owned and operated airport in Egypt is Marsa Alam International Airport. This is also the first airport recorded in history to have been operating under a total BOT system. Marsa Alam is a fishing village on the coast of Egypt's Red Sea. This place is located at a distance of 132 km from Al Quseir. However with the advent of the newly constructed Marsa Alam International Airport and also a number of new projects coming up around this place it is fast turning out to be much more than a mere fishing village with every passing day.

The facilities which are offered by Marsa Alam International Airport to its passengers would include an internet café, VIP/private aircraft lounge, police station, first aid clinic, duty free shop, Daedalus lounge, bookshop, retail outlet for jewellery, airlines and tourist offices, bank and ATM machines. At present the airport has a capacity of 600 passengers per hour. The runway of the airport is capable of handling Boeing 767 jets. There exists control tower with NAVAID facilities, DVOR-DME, dual power supply source, facilities pertaining to the refueling of Jet A1.
