Speaking of Egypt, the first thing that comes to our mind is pyramids and pharaohs. The country is also known for its literary contributions. From ancient age, Egyptian authors have gifted the world with some great work of literature. In this page we will be discussing about some of the famous Egyptian authors who have left a mark of their own.
Famous Egyptian authors:
In Egypt there are numerous writers who have reached success from their literary works. Names of some of these authors are given below:
Alaa Al Aswany: Born in the year of 1957, Alaa Al Aswany received critical acclamation for his second novel throughout the world. The novel dealt with the story line that depicts the contemporary picture of Egypt. This novel was later translated into various languages and in the year 2006, a film was also pictured on the subject.
Abbas Al Akkad: Within his lifespan from 1889-1964, Abbas Al Akkad wrote over 100 books. Dealing in philosophy of life, religion and humanity, the books of Abbas Al Akkad were translated in different languages. His poetries are known to be complex with usage of flowery sentences. His most popular works of Abbas were al-‘Abkariat, God and Sarah.
Muhammad Aladdin: Famous for his short stories and script writings, Aladdin, who is also known as Alaa Eddin, came to the limelight with the launch of his first book. The first book of Aladdin was published by “The Gospel Publishers”. He also used to write comic magazine articles in his youth days.
Mohamed Solaiman Abdel Malek: Malek is a very popular Egyptian author who started his literary journey at the age of 14. Writing for the weekly magazine, “Kol El-Naas”, he got introduced as the youngest writer of all. Since then he has written some very popular Arabic books that have received good response in Middle East countries.

Starting with poetry, Abdel Malek gradually tried his literary skills at novel writing also. He has written three novels till date that were published by the Modern Arab Association.
Other authors of Egypt:
Apart from the above stated reputed Egyptian authors, other authors are equally good. Names of these writers are Baha Taher, Yousef el-Kaeed, Sahar el-Mougy, Gamal Al-Ghitani, Tawfiq al-Hakim, Yehia Hakki, Ibrahim Al-Moilhy and Farouk Monib.
