Hafez Ibrahim is one of the Egyptian poets. He is called the Poet of the Nile. This Egyptian poet has
played significant role in the revival of Arabic poetry. He has made significant contribution in the Arabic poetry during the later part of the 19th century.
Hafez Ibrahim belongs to those poets who still use the traditional Arabic system of rhyme and meter. But these poets also express new ideas in their poetry. The ideas that are expressed by these poets were familiar to the classical poets of Arabia.
Hafez Ibrahim is a modern Egyptian poet who has written poetry on many kinds of social and political
issue. He expressed his thought process through the medium of poetry. Poetic craftsmanship and extra-ordinary power to treat different kinds of topics with the imagination of a poet are the salient features of Hafez Ibrahim's poetry.
Hafez Ibrahim was born on a ship sailing on the Nikle river near Dairout on February 4, 1871. This place is in the Asyut district of Egypt. He was born to Egyptian-Turkish parents respectively. He lost both his parents when he was very young. His mother brought young Hafez to Cairo before her death.
In the capital of Egypt, Hafez Ibrahim lived with his uncle who was a government employee by profession. Few days later his father brought him to Tanta. At this place, Hafez Ibrahim met Sheikh Abdel Wahab El Nagar who found poetical sense in this young boy.
Sheikh Abdel Wahab El Nagar encouraged Hafez Ibrahim to read different kinds of books. Under his guidance, Hafez started to read Al Aghani, which is the book of songs. After completing his formal education, he became a lawyer. But he was always interested in literature and particularly poetry.
