Personal life of Samir Amin: Samir Amin spent his earlier days mostly in Port Said, Cairo where he attended a French High School. Samir Amin studied in Paris from 1947 to 1957. He earned his diploma in political science in 1952. Later he graduated in economics and statistics in the year 1957 and 1956 respectively. He submitted his thesis in 1957. After completing his studies he returned to Cairo.
Samir Amin joined the French Communist Party during his college days. But later he drifted from Soviet Marxism and became more interested in the Maoist circles. Etudiants Anticolonialistes was a magazine that he published with his associated while studying in the university. Samir Amin served as research officer at the government 'Institution for Economic Management' after returning to Cairo.
