Egyptian cinema had come a long way since its start. The new century dawned with fresh new ideas. Films had improved and versatile topics were being experimented with while doing the films. Egyptian films of the 2000s were different from the films produced in the previous eras.
Tobacco usage in Egyptian films that had peaked during the 1970's and went down slightly during the 1980s. In the 2000s girls from social and working class backgrounds started smoking openly as shown in many films. Shisha and cigarettes were no more restricted to men. The Egyptian films of the 2000s also portrayed contradictory images of the average aspiring youth. Some movies showed good young men, who did not smoke becoming successful. On the other hand some Egyptian movies of 2000's also showed a young man having a good time in life. This person smokes, uses drugs yet is successful in accomplishing his dreams.
The birth of the century marked the completion of a century of the Egyptian film industry. The first ever film was made in 1912. It was titled “Dans les Rues d' Alexandria”. This was a documentary that lasted for 11 minutes. The first real movie was made in 1927, “ Layla” this was a silent movie. The first Egyptian movie that had audio was made in 1932. The Egyptian film industry is in fact the fifth oldest in the world. The film industry not only added to the rich culture of the country but also boosted the economy.
The Egyptian film industry was the biggest in the Arab world. It had already started producing its own films when the rest where struggling over political issues and independence. Egyptian films of the 2000s reached its height with improved movie theaters that began mushrooming in different parts. This proved the rising popularity of Egyptian movies in the 21st century. The genre of movies also became more versatile with comedy, biographies and action movies being produced along with dramas.
Egyptian cinema of 2000s also marked the end of Ahmed Zaki's film career.

He was a talented Egyptian actor, who had started his career in films in 1974 with the Abnaa Elsamt. He passed away in 2005, thus ending a era of Egytian cinema. Halim in 2006 was his last movie, this was a musical biography, which had certain dramatic flavor as well. Some other Egyptian films of the 2000s are :
