Founded in the year 1960, by Onsi Sawiris, today the huge Egyptian conglomerate is run by the three sons of the business tycoon. The leading company in mobile telecommunications operating in GSM spectrum, Orascom Telecom Holding makes its presence in seven emerging markets which includes Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The countries using Orascom Telecom GSM network are Egypt, Algeria, Pakistan, Tunisia, Iraq, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. There are close to 20 million subscribers who use the Orascom Telecom.
Company profile of Orascom Projects and Touristic Development
It was in the year 2004, that the Orascom Projects and Touristic Development had a merger with the Orascom Hotels Holding making the company the largest hotel consortium in Egypt. Since 2005, the company adopted the new name of Orascom Hotels and Development. It is estimated that, OHD has a land of almost 118 million square meters in 7 different countries. Some of the projects of this group includes, hotels, golf courses, real-estate properties, shopping centers and restaurants. It is also the largest owner of hotels in Egypt.
