The geography of Egypt can be divided into two parts. The country of Egypt belongs to North Africa. But one important part of the geography of Egypt is also that that it also comprises the Sinai Peninsula which is a part of Southwest Asia. Therefore, when talking about the geography of Egypt, it must be mentioned the Egypt is a part of both of North Africa as well as Southwest Asia.
The coastline of the Africa is bounded by the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The western part of the country is bordered by Libya and the southern part is bordered by Sudan. The land area of the country is same to that of New Mexico and Texas combined. It is four times the area of UK and two times the area of France.
The distance between the northern end of the country to southern end is 1,024 kilometers which is the longest. As per the geography of Egypt, east to west distance is 1,240 kilometers. The natural boundaries of Egypt comprise 2,900 kilometers of shoreline. This is covered by the coasts of the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez. The geographic coordinates of Egypt are 27°00?N, 30°00?E.
The geography of Egypt reveals, the country can be divided into 26 governorates or provinces. Out of these, there are 4 city governorates namely Alexandria, Cairo, Port Said and Suez. There are nine governorates which belong to the Lower Egypt. There are eight governorates which belong to the Upper part of the country along the south of Nile River from the city Cairo to Aswan. There are five frontier governorates and these cover the regions like Sinai and the desert regions that comprise the western and eastern side of Nile.
