Location of Egypt

Egypt is officially called the Arab Republic of Egypt. The location of Egypt is in North Africa. Egypt also includes the Sinai Peninsula which serves as a land bridge connecting the country to Asia. The total land area of this African country is 1,001,450 square kilometers. As per the location of Egypt goes, its western part is bordered by Libya and southern part is surrounded by Sudan. Its eastern boundary is shared by Israel and Gaza Strip.

A study of the location of Egypt shows that its northern coast is bordered by the island of Cyprus and the Mediterranean Sea. The Red Sea forms a boundary in the eastern coast of Egypt. The strategic location of Egypt makes it one of the most reachable destinations. Due its great geographic location, the country has also played a major role in transportation in connecting the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia.

Approximately the land area of the country is 9, 97,738 sq km. The distance from the north of Egypt to South is 1085 km and from east to west, the distance is 1255 km. The capital city of Egypt is Cairo. The river called Nile which serves as the lifeline of the country is the longest river is the whole world. A major part of the population of Egypt resides in the region around the valley of Nile and the deltaic region of the river.

The studies on the geomorphology of the country show that major part of the land is covered by desert. In the whole of the desert region, 90% is covered by the Libyan Desert and Sahara Desert and Arabian Desert is 10%. In the definitions of Middle East, North Africa finds a common mention. Both these regions make up Arab. According to the Egypt's location, the Sinai Peninsula that belongs to the country of Egypt is also a part of the Asian continent. This makes Egypt a transcontinental country.

Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and some of the world's most famous monuments, including the Giza pyramid complex and the Great Sphinx. The southern city of Luxor contains numerous ancient artifacts, such as the Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings. Egypt is widely regarded as an important political and cultural nation of the Middle East. Studies reveal that Egypt is the 38th country just after Mauritania, in size. The size of the country can be compared to that of Tanzania. The country is two times the size of France, four times United Kingdom's size.
