The era that existed between the the Early Neolithic and the starting of the Pharaonic monarchy is marked as the Predynastic Period in Egypt. However, there is a great debate regarding the exact date when the Predynastic Period came to an end. However, most of the scholars hold 3100 BCE as the time when the Predynastic Period came to an end.
The Predynastic Period in the history of Egypt is divided into several cultural periods which were titled after the sites in which a specific kind of Egyptian settlement was discovered for the first time. However, it must be pointed out that gradual advancement that marked the protodynastic period existed all through the said period in Egypt's history.
Some of the cultures that existed in Egypt during the Predynastic Period include Quadan and Sebilian cultures, Tasian Culture, Amratian Culture, Faiyum A Culture, Badarian Culture, and Gerzean ( Naqada II) Culture.

In accordance with the archaeologists who excavated several archaeological sites in Egypt, the Quadan and Sebilian cultures is evident is more or less twenty places. The places in which the Quadan culture has been discovered exist in upper Nubia. The people belonging to this particular Egyptian culture mostly earned their living by farming. They chose the aera around Nile for their farming. Sebilian Culture also existed in Egypt during the Predynastic period. This culture was also called Esna culture.
The people of this culture associated themselves with the farming of barley and wheat.
But constant desiccation in Egypt compelled the people of Egypt to settle around Nile. They also adapted an inactive life.

In Egypt, the Neolithic settlement are traced around 6,000 BCE. It is during the Faiyum A period that the trade of weaving was traced in Egypt for the first time. Tasian Culture is another culture that prevailed in Egypt during the Predynastic period. The Tasian culture group was known for the production of the blacktop-ware,. Blacktop-ware, is a kind of brown and red pottery which was painted with black in the interior and surface. Badarian Culture is another among the great cultures that had their existence in the Predynastic period in Egypt. This culture was named for the Badari that existed in proximity to Der Tasa.
As the predynastic period advanced , pottery converted itself from functional to ornamental. Blacktop-ware pottery became extremely popular during this period. The Amratian culture has acquired its name from the site called El-Amra.
