Centuries of conquest make Upper Egypt to get divided into three states. These states include Nekhen, Naqada, and Thinis.
Nothing concrete is known regarding the political make –up of Lower Egypt. But Lower Egypt perhaps had shared the Set cult of naqada while Nekhen and Thinis constituted part and parcel of the Horus cult. Being put between Nekhen and Thinis, Naqada was the first to suffer the downfall. After this , Thinis invaded Lower Egypt. The rekationship of Thinis and Nekhen was not certain but these two states might have peacefully merged with the great Thinite aristocratic family reigning all of Egypt. The Thinite monarchs were buried at Abydos situated in the Umm el-Qa'ab cemetery.

Many of the historians believe Narmer to be the last Egyptian monarch of the Protodynastic period. The Predynastic Period of Egypt is actually the time between the early Neolithic period and the commencement of the Pharaonic era starting with King Narmer.
The Protodynastic Period is one of the great historical periods in Egypt. The historians have divided the Predynastic period into cultural periods titled after the sites in which a specific kind of Egyptian settled was traced for the first time. However, it has to be pointed put that similar development that marked the Protodynastic Priod in Egypt existed allover the Predynastic Period, and individual cultures should not be taken as separate entities . But they should be taken as subjective parts used to encourage the study of the whole period.
