Origin of the party
The political party of Hizb al-Gabha al-Democrati follows the ideology of liberal democracy. The Democratic Front Party of Egypt was formed by the former members of the National Democratic Party (NDP). The National Democratic Party is the current ruling political power in the country of Egypt. The NDP has been ruling the country of Egypt for more than 30 years now. It was Dr. Osama Al Ghazali Harb who founded the Hizb al-Gabha al-Democrati.

Dr. Yehia EL Gamal was also one of the founding members of the Democratic Front Party. While Dr. Osama Al Ghazali Harb was one of the members of the National Democratic Party, Dr. Yehia EL Gamal was a former cabinet minister of the country of Egypt. Both of them chose to form their own political parties owning to the difference of opinions that they had with the National Democratic Party members. They did not agree with many of the methods and policies of the ruling government and founded their own political party based on the ideology of liberal democracy.

Popularity of the party
The plans for the formation of a new political party had begun to take shape as early as 2006. The founding members of the popular Democratic Front Party were thoroughly disgruntled with the pace at which the ruling party, NDP, was carrying out the reform activities. The new political party held it first public meeting on the 25th of September, 2006 in Cairo. The meeting was attended by a large number of people including the likes of journalists and political science professors. The success of the first public meeting proved to be an impetus for the formal foundation of the political party of Hizb al-Gabha al-Democrati.
