Governorates of Egypt |
|
Governorates of Egypt are similar to the states or units of governance. Creation of Governorates of Egypt enables greater facilities and governance in the smallest districts and towns of Egypt. According to the constitution of the land, the Governorates of Egypt are the basic units of governance in Egypt. The president of Egypt, once elected chooses a single governor for each of the Governorates of Egypt.
Egypt is divided into as many as 27 Governorates. Most of the Governorates of Egypt have been formed on the basis of concentration of population and facilities available. While some of the population can be broadly segregated as urban and rural Governorates, there are some Governorates which enjoy the status of a mixed Governorate. These Governorates are partly rural and partly urban. The Governorates of Egypt play an important role during the formation of electoral colleges and general election in the country.

Urban and Rural Governorates in Egypt
Technically one can not distinguish between rural and urban Governorates of Egypt. However, political practices and methods of governance show that a rural governorate is further divided into some more tiers. That is why these governorates deserve special attention and governance. The benefit with urban Governorates of Egypt is that they can taste the supreme most facilities. Beginning from renowned schools to colleges and job opportunities, the urban Governorates of Egypt, offer a plethora of opportunities for one and all.
Rural Governorates of Egypt on the other hand, consist of villagers who have to spend a tough time in earning their living. Such Governorates of Egypt like New Valley, Luxor and South Sinai deserve more funds from the government.

Capital cities like Cairo or the Giza area and Suez are replete with ultramodern facilities and latest opportunities. The deserts in the south offer inhospitable living conditions. People residing in these areas often lead a lifestyle much below the poverty line.
City Governorates of Egypt
Major City Governorates of Egypt include Cairo and Alexandria. Since an urban governorate can not be divided into marakazes or regions, both Cairo and Alexandria consist of many districts. The city of Cairo has as many as 23 districts. Each of these districts is offered with separate names and facilities. Some of the special districts within the city are associated with special activities and monuments. The city of Alexandria, on the other hand, has six districts. Alexandria is an important port and a business center.
