The political system of Egypt is one of the oldest surviving in the world. It is based on the moder followed by the Egyptians, that some of the other popular countries of the world formed their political structure. The country has been served by numerous Prime Ministers and a majority of them had a key role to play in the development of the nation. Baghos Nubar Pasha was the first Prime Minister to have taken charge of the country of Egypt. Baghos Nubar Pasha was instrumental in shaping the modern day political system of Egypt.

Early Life

Boghos Nubar Pasha boasted of an Armenian descent. His father was a wealthy Armenian merchant. Nubar Pasha'a mother was the relative of Boghos Bay Yusufian, an important member of the Mehemet Ali ministry. Boghos Bey was responsible for sending a young Nubar Pasha to Vevey and later to Toulouse, for his educational pursuits. It was in Toulouse that Nubar Pashe learnt the language of French. He finished his academics and joined Boghos Bey in Mehemet Ali's ministry.

Role in Egyptian politics and administration

Boghos Nubar Pasha had a very critical role to play in the formation of the modern day Egypt. Before becoming the Prime Minister of the country of Egypt, he had performed various duties for the benefit of the nation and also for international co-operation. His initiatives that facilitated the building of mutually beneficial relations between Egypt and other countries were acknowledged. His performance and reputation as an Egyptian statesman was something quite remarkable for those times.

Terms as Prime Minister

Baghos Nubar Pasha had served the country of Egypt in the capacity of a Prime Minister for a total of 3 separate terms. It was in the month of August, 1878 that Nubar Pasha became the first Prime Minister of Egypt. His first term in office lasted till 23rd of February, 1879. Thereafter, he again became the Prime Minister from the 10th of January, 1884 and remained in office till the 9th of June, 1888.

Finally on the 16th of April, 1894 he again became the Prime Minister. His last term lasted for only a few months ending on the 12th of November, 1895.

Last days

After the 3rd term of Prime Minister Boghos Nubar Pasha ended, he spent his last 3 years in cities like Cairo and Paris. It was in the city of Paris that he met with his death in the month of January in 1899. Nubar Pasha was one of the most dynamic political leaders of the country of Egypt.
