The Ptolemaic Era

The Ptolemaic era was established by Ptolemy who was the son of Lagus, the general of Alexander the Great. When Alexander died in the year 323, Ptolemy was appointed take care of Egypt. Eventually he declared himself as the king in the year 304. The dynasty was into existence till the death of Cleopatra VII and the conquests by the Roman in Egypt. The Ptolemaic era is one of the best-known chapters of ancient history of Egypt.

Ptolemy I and Cleopatra VII are one of the best-known rulers of Egypt. Most of the kings and queens of the Ptolemaic Era were known for their conquesting powers .the Ptolemaic era in Egypt was one of the greatest ruling power in the ancient history. During this period the armies of Egyptian ranged from many countries of the Egypt. The period is also witness to many kinds of Egyptian art and architecture. Some of the prominent monuments of the Ptolemaic era are at Edfu, Esna, Kom Ombo, Dendera, Philae and many more.

It was under the Ptolemaic era that Alexandria, one of the cities of Egypt. It became renowned in terms of its cultural background and economy in the ancient Egypt. That time Egypt was ruled from Alexandria by the descendants of the Ptolemaic Era until the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BC. During the Ptolemaic era the quality of Egyptian agriculture increased by cultivating the land through irrigation and they are the ones who introduced crops such as cotton and grapes for wine production.

They also made Egypt prosperous by increasing the foreign trade. This made luxury goods available to more people. In return, Egypt changed their way of living as the new rulers of the Ptolemaic era absorbed and adopted culture. Ptolemy and his descendants adopted the Egyptian forms of worshiping the Gods. They even mummified and buried like the Egyptians.

Speaking about Egypt,it saw a rise in its economy as the Ptolemaic rulers developed extensive scale of administrative systems in Egypt. The Ptolemies also respected Egyptian customs and tried to lived according to it, and contributing in number of ways in the welfare of the country. Most of the male descendants of this dynasty, were named Ptolemy. The end of the Ptolemaic dynasty came due to the weak rulers. Soon the famous queen Cleopatra could save the kingdom due to her good relations with Rome. She was an efficient ruler bestowed with administrative qualities.
