Pyramids are the tombs of Pharaohs. There are more than 100 pyramids in Egypt. Many of them are relatively unknown to the common people. Hence, it can not be said that all the major pyramids of Egypt were built during the ancient times. Almost all the kings of Egypt have contributed to the number of pyramids. Some pyramids also have other structures such as smaller pyramids and tombs.
The large pyramids of Egypt help to show the power and strength of the Pharaohs. Though the royal pyramids were not set up, after Ahmose, yet many small pyramids were constructed. It was mainly done by private individuals.

The Nubians who ruled in Egypt also built pyramids which are small in size and and have steep sides. This tradition was carried out in the Nubian dynasty.
