The Black Pyramid

Egyptian civilization is one of the richest in the world history. Pyramids are some of the main architectural patterns which are related to it. The Black Pyramid is one of the most interesting among them in which historians across the globe have researched. This particular structure is associated with the history of Egypt in many ways. This structure has also helped the archaeologists to know many important aspects about the history of this country. Go through the following to get all the detailed information about the Black Pyramid and its role in the history of Egypt.

It is believed that the Black Pyramid was built in the Middle Kingdom Period in this country. King Amenemhat III was the ruler of this part of Egypt at that time. The time has been estimated as 2040 to 1640 BC. There are total 11 pyramids throughout Egypt. Some of them are located at the Necropolis of Dahshur. The Black Pyramid is one of these remaining five pyramids in this region. The name of this pyramid has been formed because of the dark appearance of it. Some of the French archaeologists were the first team who are credited for the discovery of this pyramid. Later on the German Archaeological Institute of Cairo lent their hands to complete the project of excavation.

The height of the Black Pyramid is 81.5 meters and the base is about 150 meters long. This is undoubtedly one of those pyramids which are known for the architectural perfection. The walls of the pyramid are inclined to the horizontal ground at an angle of 57 degrees. One of the most interesting thing about this pyramid is the fact that instead of limestone, brick and clay have been used for building the pattern. The subterranean burial chambers in this pyramid are some of the main aspects of this structure. Two of these burials are believed to be of Queen Sobekneferu and King Amenemhet IV.

Some of the precious things from the inside of the Black Pyramid has been stolen by vandals in the past.

According to the archaeologists the Black Pyramid had many architectural imbalances. These defects have resulted in the deterioration of the structure along with the passage of time. Ceilings were not supported properly and use of many underground corridors has also affected the strength of the pattern badly.
