Among the three pyramids present in the Giza Necropolis, the Great Pyramids of Giza is the most popular and largest. It has been incorporated in the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World for its uniqueness. As per the ancient day’s beliefs, the Pyramids of Giza was built for Khufu, the pharaoh of Egypt’s Fourth dynasty. As it has connections to Khufu, hence it is sometimes referred to as Pyramid of Khufu or Khufu’s Pyramid. It was around the time 2560 BC that this famous place was built.
Construction of Pyramids of Giza:
A complex was built in honor of Khufu, out of which the Great Pyramids of Giza is the most significant one. It is believed that Hemon or Hemiunu, Khufu’s vizier is the architect of the Pyramid of Giza. The Greek historian, Herodotus had estimated that around 100, 000 workers were required to build The Great Pyramids of Giza in 20 years. Later, the estimation was increased to 300, 000 men by Wieslaw Kozinski, the polish architect. This calculation kept on changing, with the passage of time.
Entire layout of The Pyramids of Giza:
When it was built, it measured to 146.6 meters; however, after theft and erosion, its height has reduced to 138.8 meters. Its base side measures up to 440 royal cubits (1 cubit = 0.524 meters). Originally, its base covered a total area of about 13 acres. Due to many man-made and natural reasons the Pyramids of Giza has lost a lot of area and height, which has further made it loose its uniqueness.
