Egypt has always been the favorite destination for the lovers of architecture. The country is gifted with a glorious history, which is reflected through the presence of a large number of Pyramids. The Pyramid of Isesi is quite an old Pyramid, which was originally known as The pyramid of Isesi is beautiful. It had a height of 52.5 m and a base length of 78.5 m. This pyramid is located South of Pepi I's pyramid and looks quite similar to that of the pyramid of Pepi II.
Those who are interested to know about the person, for whom The Pyramid of Isesi has been built, must know that Djedkare-Isesi was the second last king of Dynasty V. He was the predecessor to Unas and also the first pharaoh to build a pyramid in the area to the south of the main Saqqara necropolis. He moved away from the burial grounds of his ancestors at Abusir and found a new location in the Southern part.
The historians conclude that he ruled for no less than three decades and brought revolutionary changes in the administration of Upper and Lower Egypt.
The Pyramid of Isesi was constructed during this 6th dynasty, is now known today as 'The Sentinel' (el-Shawaf). This huge Pyramid is in proximity to the modern village of Saqqara. There were several attempts to explore the Pyramid. Gaston Maspero in 1880 entered into the Pyramid during his search for pyramid texts. Later in the 1940s Abdel Salam Hussein excavated the Pyramid.
A lot of damage of the pyramid complex has taken place and in the present, very little is found here. While you visit this place, you will find that the core of Isesi’s Pyramid was built of six steps of small limestone blocks. Most of the limestone casing has faded but it still retains the ancient glory. The Pyramid of Isesi has three huge portcullis slabs that blocked the corridor.
The antechamber and the burial chamber to the west and the east are worth excavating. The robbers did a great deal of damage to the Pyramid, but there are still some relics which gives us a fair idea about the reign of this pharaoh king.
