Pyramids of Mazghuna

Pyramids are not only the historical evidences in Egypt but they are also some of the most prominent tourist destinations in this country. Pyramids of Mazghuna are known for the historical aspects which are associated with it. There are actually two pyramids. Both have their typical aspects for which they are unique. Many archaeologists have researched on both these structures and formed some valuable theories which are related with the historical aspects of the country. Egyptian civilization is related to the whole world's history. Go through the following to know all the details about Pyramids of Mazghuna.

The Northern Pyramid:
Mazghuna Field is the location of both the Pyramids of Mazghuna. The northern pyramid is the taller one. But, the whole structure of this pyramid has never been completed. It has been estimated that this pyramid was built during the 12th Dynasty of Egypt. Ameny-Qemau has another pyramid in the nearby area and this northern pyramid has many resemblances with that. This has helped in the estimation of the time when it was built. There is also a burial chamber which is entirely subterranean. It has not been revealed yet to whom this burial belongs. Monilithic quartzite has been used to fill up the burial chamber. The sarcophagus was never completed. Some of its parts are covered with plaster while the other parts remain uncovered. Horizontal black lines have been used for adorning the sarcophagus.

The Southern Pyramid:
Earnest MacKay was the British archaeologist who is credited for discovering this pyramid. Being one of the main Pyramids of Mazghuna the time when it was built has been estimated as the Middle Kingdom. The discovery was made in the year 1910 and after that many of the eminent archaeologists have researched on it. The interior of this pyramid is somewhat different from the northern structure. There are two chambers inside the pyramid. One of them is the service chamber while the other one is the burial chamber. The inner chamber is believed to be built for King Amenemhet III.

There are many side channels which were supposed to be used for clearing the sand inside the pyramid.

Both the Northern and the Southern Pyramids of Mazghuna are the representatives of the past of Egypt. Therefore the government of this country has taken all the initiatives to maintain them perfectly. Thousands of tourists from all across the globe come to visit these places everyday.
