Go through the following to know all the details about the Pyramids of Meidum and their role in the history of Egypt.

Pyramids of Meidum are located 100 kilometers to the southern direction from the capital city of Cairo. These pyramids were built with mud bricks which have made them different from the other famous pyramids in Cairo. As far as it has been deduced, the Pyramids of Meidum were built during the Third Dynasty of Egyptian civilization. Pharaoh Sneferu was the person who started building step pyramids and these pyramids are believed to have been made in the same tradition. There are also evidences which have proved that Pyramids of Meidum have broken down several times and they were rebuilt with the efforts of thousands of residents in this area. There are also grounds to believe that more steps in the pyramids were present in the time of Napoleon.

John Shae Perring is another name which is associated with the discovery of these pyramids. He was the person who came to Egypt in the year 1837 and began excavation. Flinders Petrie was the other person who developed many ideas regarding all the Pyramids of Meidum. Ludwig Borchardt, Alan Rowe and Ali el-Kholi are some other people who were also associated with the process of discovery. The entrance of the pyramids are at the height of 20 meters from the ground level. In most of the pyramids the sarcophagus have not been discovered yet.

There are long tunnels which take the visitors to the underground chambers. Burials of some of the ancient kings and their family members can be found there.

One of the Pyramids of Meidum is also called in Arabic el-haram-el-kaddab which means “False Pyramid” in English. This pyramid, too had collapsed during the time of Sneferu and was rebuilt in the same way like the others. All these pyramids are believed to be experimental ones before the actual technology came into existence.
