Pepi I was a noted ruler of ancient Egypt's 6th Dynasty and he was the second in line. His pyramid at South Saqqara is noted as The Pyramid of Pepi I. In the present form, the pyramid hardly has a height of twelve meter. It has been revealed from the fragments of Khamuaset's restoration text that the pyramid was compact during the 19th Dynasty. The locals as well as the foreign visitors show immense interest towards the pyramid.
In 1881, Maspero for the first time discovered pyramid texts inside the pyramid. Like most other Pyramids in Egypt, the archaeologists all over the world led various research works and came out with striking discoveries. The researchers and explorers have found the small pyramid complexes of Pepi's consorts in The Pyramid of Pepi I. History suggests that there was a valley temple and causeway, but at present, no one knows about its existence.
The mortuary complex resembles the Teti's complex and it is symmetrical consisted of inner and outer sections. If you spend some time near the Pyramid, you can move through the doorway in the middle of the corridor and visit the chapel. This chapel in the complex of the Pyramid of Pepi I lead to the offering hall. A small cult pyramid is also found on the foundation of the pyramid. The Pyramid of Pepi I at South Saqqara has six steps and built in close imitation of Djedkare's pyramid.
