The Pyramid of Userkaf

If you have always found interest in knowing the pyramids then visiting Egypt should exist in your travel list. There are many different and important pyramids in Egypt. The Pyramid of Userkaf is one of them. It is located in the pyramid field at Saqqara. Constructed and built up in a dressed stone structure it has a core of rubble. At present the pyramid resembles a conical hill and is situated just to the north of the Step Pyramid of Djoser Netjerikhet.

The interior of the Pyramid of Userkaf was first explored by John Shae Perring in 1839. This was mainly done by robber's tunnel which was previously discovered by Orazio Marucchi in 1831. Actually Perring thought that the pyramid belonged to Djedkare. Originally however the pyramid was first correctly identified and recognized by Egyptologist Cecil Firth in 1928. research showed that the pyramid introduced several new changes from the dynasties that existed previously. In comparison with the tombs of the Fourth dynasty, this pyramid was rather small. It measured under 50 meters high with sides only 73 and 30 meters long.

Since the pyramid is not on the tourist track it requires a 30 minute track through the soft sand from the step pyramid in order to reach. The present view reveals the pyramid being stripped of its outer casing and appears as a heap of rubble. Part of the black basalt open court floor is still visible. There is a satellite pyramid, 21m square. There is another pyramid in the southern part which has enclosure wall on the outside surface. It was apparently done for the for a queen whose name is Neferhetepes. The open courtyard area appears to be in a trench several meter lower than the desert which surrounds the place. egyptflights.com informs you about The Pyramid of Userkaf , to avail more know-how on the exciting and the mystic world of Egypt, do flip through the other pages of the site.
