Egypt Religions

The religious life in Egypt is marked by great variation as you will find people belonging to different community residing here in complete co operation and harmony. Egypt Religions comprise Islam in addition to Christianity and Judaism and people belonging to all community is entitled to practice their own religion as per the constitution of the country.

Ancient Egyptian Religion

Egyptian religion in the ancient time did not descent from any canonical writing or theology. Religion was the consequence of people's interaction with the Gods. The Ankh symbolized life and is still extant in the form of Christian Cross. The ancient Egypt religion was pagan in nature marked by animal worship. Researches have revealed the existence of such animal worship among the Egyptians in the fourth century B.C.

Islam Religion in Egypt

The constitution of Egypt declares Islam as the state religion of the country.More than 85-90% of the Egyptians are Muslim. However, majority of the Egyptian Muslims follow Sunni faith with only a handful of Shia. The Sunnis in Egypt are mostly the followers of Sufi cult. The elite section of the Egyptian Muslims are associated with the Al Azhar University, one of the oldest, extant Islam university. The popular belief among these educated section is that every individual possess the right to practice the religion as they wish. This way of following the religion is quite different to those propagated by the staunch religious supporters.
Christianity

Christian is one of the predominant Egypt religions. The emergence of Christianity dates back to the first century C.E. when Saint Mark preached the religion here. Majority of the Christians in the country are the followers of Coptic Orthodox Church of Saint Alexandria. There are also followers of Coptic Evangelical Church and Coptic Catholic Church too.

Judaism in Egypt.

Ancient Egypt is often associated with the Jewish community. In the recent years the Jewish residing in the country are negligible. However some of the notable personalities of the country like Yaqub Sanu, the nationalist, Togo Mizrahi, the filmmaker, Leila Mourad, the famous singer, have embraced this faith.

Apart from the prominent Egypt Religions there are other religions in Egypt, followed and practiced by the minority community of the country. A minor section of the population are the followers of Bahia Faith. There are also a certain section of Egyptian population also follows Atheism and Agnosticism.
