Egypt Demography

Located in th northern flank of the African continent, Egypt happens to be the most populous in the Middle east and the second in rank in the entire Africa. A cradle to one of the ancient civilizations of the world, Egypt happened to be the land of the Pharaohs. Today, Egypt Demography is a mixed bag which includes different ethnic races all contributing to the colorful culture of the country. Egypt being a splendid wonderful motley of diverse ethnic races each contributing in their own way to the overall Egypt Demography. Although, Egypt happens to be one of the most populous among the other Arab nations, after Iran and Turkey, the population growth rate in Egypt is quite dismal.

Slowdown of Egypt's Population

This is considered one of the key factors, influencing the demography of Egypt. It is is estimated that in the year 2005, there was a growth of only 1.7 % in the total Egyptian population. According to population theorists, it is expected that there will be a further slowdown in population by the year 2015, which will record somewhat at 1.3%, if a similar trend persists. One of the key reasons behind this is that, a major portion of the rural Egyptian population is moving out to some other lucrative foreign destination. Another major reason is that, today Egyptian women are no more confined to their home and hearth. Due to their work related stress, there are more incidents of infertility in Egypt. The current estimated population of Egypt stands at about 79 million as recorded in the 2005 census.

Hubs for modern Egyptian settlement

On a closer look at the Egypt Demography, you will see that most of the country's population is concentrated along the fertile Nile basin, which is around the cities of Alexandria and Cairo. Both of these cities are the hubs of prime activities in Egypt, and happens to be the most populous metropolises not only in Egypt but also in the Middle East. However, there are also minor streaks of population in the other rural and desert areas.

Composition of Egypt Demography

It is believed that, Egyptians are the largest ethnic group, not only in the country but also one of the highest in the world. The ethnic communities account for almost 97-98% of the total Egypt Demography. The country has a a mixed population which includes ethnic minorities like the Arab Bedouins, Beja communities, Roma clans, Fayyum and the Siwis. As for the religion, while the majority embraces Islam, there are few Coptic Christians and Judaists too.
