Atheism and Agnosticism

Religions in Egypt are some of the most important aspects as far as the socio-cultural scenario of this country is concerned. Atheism and Agnosticism are two major sects of religion which are found in this country. Islam, Christianity and Judaism are the three main religious communities which are seen throughout Egypt. But the role of these small sects like Atheism and Agnosticism cannot be denied as well. Go through the following to learn in details about them.

Many of the Egyptians consider themselves as agnostic and atheist. Yet, the number of people belonging to these sects are not calculated because they cannot openly announce their beliefs. The Egyptian law do not allow anyone to talk against any religious beliefs existing in the country. There are many of the Egyptians who have been put into charges for speaking against the Islam and Christianity. Speaking against any religious beliefs is known as apostasy in this country and this is a punishable offense as this may rise national communal problems. Egypt is a country where religious freedom is valued to the most and this is why Atheism and Agnosticism are not allowed openly.

Agnosticism in Egypt:

Agnosticism is the practice which do not pay hid to any of the religions in Egypt. People believing in this ideology focus on the reality through which human beings have to pass. The word “gnosis” means knowledge. This knowledge is essentially associated with hard reality which has no connection with pagan as well as beliefs of non-dualism. People belonging to this community can from some point of view regarded as non-believers or Atheists.

Agnosticism is the term which was coined by Thomas Henry Huxley. Gnosticism was a known philosophy which already existed before.
Huxley's attempt was to refute this theory by the establishment of the term and philosophy of Agnosticism. Gnosis is the term which is actually associated with spiritual philosophy and training. On the other hand, Agnosticism deals with hard reality.

Atheism in Egypt:

Atheism totally deals with non-existence of God. The strong rejection of theism is another important aspect of this philosophy. Atheism is very similar to the belief of Agnosticism. Freethought is the main spirit of this philosophy. Many people in Egypt believe in this philosophy but in some cases there are chances to hurt the Islamic beliefs. Considering this fact they cannot announce their beliefs openly.
