Egypt is one of the most ancient countries in the whole world. So, many of the prominent religions have their base in this country. Apart from Judaism, there are many other religions in Egypt. Islam in Egypt:
Islam is considered as the state religion in this country. About 80% of the population belongs to the Islamic community. Sunni is the branch of Islam which looms large in Egypt. Apart from the Sunni community there are also some of the people who belong to the Shi'ite community, although people of this sect have become rare in this country. Sunni Muslims in Egypt have a certain number of people who are also the followers of Sufi orders which are according to the unique tradition of this land. The most important thing about Islam in Egypt is the fact that Al-Azhar University, the main Sunni institution is situated in Egypt. Established in 970 CE, this university plays a significant role in teaching the people from Sunni community.

Islam is one of those other religions in Egypt whose laws have been taken under consideration by the government of this country, other than Judaism and Christianity. Imams are the main religious teachers in Islamic religion and Al-Azhar University has arrangements for training these leaders.
Christianity in Egypt:
Most of the people who belong to the Christian community in Egypt, follow the Orthodox Church of Alexandria. Saint Mark was the man to establish this church. Among the main churches which play important roles in this country the mentionable ones are Coptic Evangelical Church, Melkite Greek Catholic Church, Episcopal Church located in Jerusalem, Roman Catholic Church and many others.

Apart from all these Catholic churches there are Protestant churches located in this country too. But these Protestant churches have never been that much influential in this country, therefore the number of people belonging to this community is also less. During the 1960s Seventh-day Adventist Church was given the legal status by the government of Egypt.
