The tourist attractions in Aswan offer a variety of sites for tourists to visit and among the list of tourist attractions in Aswan Kom Ombo Temple is one of the most prominent tourist sites. Here at Egyptflightshub.com we attempt to brief you about the most interesting facts related to the Kom Ombo Temple.
The Temple of Kom Ombo located in the town of Kom-Ombo, 28miles away north Aswan and dates back to the Ptolemies. Ptolemy VI Philometor founded the actual temple in the early 2nd century BC. This temple is built on a high dune overlooking the Nile and the outer and inner hypostyle halls were built by Ptolemy XIII. Augustus had built the outer enclosure wall and part of the court and you can also visit the tombs from the Old Kingdom in the vicinity of Kom-Ombo village. This is actually two temples having a Temple to Sobek and a Temple of Haroeris. The ruins of the temple still have a mesmerizing effect on tourists as it has a different story to tell.

This temple has twin entrances with two courts, two colonades, two hypostyle halls and two sanctuaries. It’s assumed that may be there were even two sets of priests and the northern side of the temple is dedicated to Haroeris. The original Pylon is now barely left with the foundations. There was once a staircase in the court beyond the Pylon which led to a roof terrace. The columned portico and central altar are a part of the court and there are columns inscribed with icons of the lotus (south) and papyrus (north) on either side of the door to the pronaos. One column that does not reflect the duality of the temples stands in the southwest corner of the pronaos and the paintings here describe the purification of the King, his coronation including his consecration of the Temple and the ceiling contains astronomical images.
