Elephantine Island is the largest among the Aswan islands and has most of the ancient sites in Aswan, Egypt. This island consists of the ancient town of Abu and the Elephantine Museum and the Temple of Khnum including the ruins of the temple of Satet and the temple of Kalabsha. On the whole the Elephantine Island is a soothing and elegant place to visit having graceful gardens and the beautiful Nubian villages with colorful houses.

The tourist site of Aga Khan Mausoleum on top of the hill at the southern end of the west bank is a marvelous place to visit while on a holiday to Aswan. This place was used by Aga Khan as a comfortable winter spot and he was also buried here. This mausoleum was modeled on the Fatimid tombs in Cairo. The Mausoleum renders a magnificient view, including the white villa Aga Khan. This site is also near the Monastery of St. Simeons on the west bank at Aswan.

The modern tourist attraction of Kitchener Island was gifted to General-Consul Horatio Kitchener in the 1890s and this island represents an interesting collection of vegetation of India and Malaysia etc.

The High Dam located near Aswan is known all over the world and is considered an engineering miracle on construction during 1960s. This Dam is 11,811 feet long, and at the base its 3215 feet thick and 364 feet tall. Presently it’s the sole irrigation and electricity providing source for the whole of Egypt and from the top of the High Dam one can view across the Lake Nassar.
