Fayyum in Egypt has always been a place of attraction for the tourists. Its serenity welcomes the tourists for ages. Not only tranquility but Fayyum is also noted for the historical monuments. The settlement of the Neolithic age can be considered as the oldest settlement of the Fyyam depression. With the passing of time the lake decreased in its size. It then stretched towards the North to the Temple of Qasr el-Sagha and to the South till Biahmu, Abshawai and Agamiyin. It was known by its name of Sha- resi to the ancient Egyptians. At later time the lake achieved the name of Mer- wer or the Great Lake. The southern part of the lake hold the name of Ta- she or Lake- Land. It was a fertile land. Shedet was its chief town. Many rulers of the 18 and 12 dynasties established their settlements at the various part of this town.

Fayyum gained the fame of a remarkable town in the Ptolemaic era. At present Fayyam covers an area of 1792 sq.km with 1,300,000 population. Among the vegetations olive, sugarcane, cotton, maize, barley, rice are found. Fruits like bananas and various citrus fruits are grown. Rearing of poultry and livestock are also practised. The various parts of Fayyum which form the tourist attractions in Fayyum can be named as -Medinet el-Fayyum Biahmu, El-Maimun, Birket Qarun - Qasr el-Banat, El-Maimun, Kom Aushim, Harit - Kharabet lhrit, Abusir el-Melek, etc.
Medinet el-Fayyum: It is one of the tourist attractions in Fayyum, being its capital. It is a commercial town. It is also the base of trade, economy and local government works.

Biahmu: It is a village and one of the major tourist attractions in Fayyum. It is at the north of Medinet el- Fayyum. The notable things of the village is the remains of the two pyramids. One is known as Kursi Faraun and the other El-Sanam.
Birket Qarun - Qasr el-Banat: Tourists will find the ruins and remains of Euhemeria in this place. The temple of Suchos and Isis will also attract the tourists.
