The Fayyum Oasis is one of the major oases of the Western part of the Egyptian desert. It lies in the southwestern part of Cairo. It is enclosed by the plateaus of high range. A ridge at al-Lahun cut it from the Nile valley. It gets its water from Nile valley through Joseph's Canal or Bahr Yussuf which is separated from the Ibrahaimeya Canal at Assyut.
The Fayyum oasis has been a place of attraction for the tourists. It enjoys a beautiful climate throughout the year. The Fayyum oasis is often regarded as one of the first agricultural sites of the world. Various types of vegetations, fruits and rearing of the poultry make the place suitable for traveling and habitation. Lake Moeris, known as Great Lake has its reputation of being a lake full of fish.
