Transportation System in Egypt is mainly around the capital Cairo and around the settlements around Nile. The ministry of transportation, along with other governmental bodies in Egypt has to look after the Transportation System in Egypt. The transportation system can be classified into the following categories:

Highways in Egypt
The road network in Egypt connects different parts of the country including the Nile Valley and Nile Delta, Mediterranean and Red Sea coasts, the Sinai, and the Western oases. The road network is expanded by the government in order to connect even the remotest corner of the country.
Egypt is the only country in Africa having highway links with neighboring continent. The Trans-African Highway has its origin in Cairo and connects Cairo with other neighboring countries.
Railways in Egypt
The first rail line in Egypt between Alexandria and Kafer Eassa was opened in 1854. Today the system is about 5,063 km long and Egyptian National Railways(ENR) is in charge of it. The main line of the nation's railway network runs from Alexandria to Aswa. There is also metro rail service in Cairo.
Transportation by air
Egypt Air mainly is in charge of domestic flights and international flights. There are around 90 airports and 2 heliports.
Waterways in Egypt
Important channels of transportation are the Nile River system (about 1,600 km. or 1,000 miles.) and the principal canals (1,600 km.) like Lake Nasser, Alexandria-Cairo Waterway etc. The Suez Canal is an extremely important center of international trade and navigation, linking the Mediterranean and Red Sea.
