Highways in the country of Egypt form the core of the transportation system in Egypt. However, the facilities of transport in the country of Egypt is largely centered in the city of Cairo. The transportation system primarily follows the pattern of Nile settlement. Archaeologists have found out that the road building process concentrated itself to Cairo's southwest, within 2600 and 2200 BC. This really indicated that the Egyptians learned the art of road building quite early. Along with the railways, the Egypt Highways, form the core the total network of transportation in the country of Egypt.

In the country of Egypt, two major Highways connect Alexandria with the city of Cairo, and the other Highways joins the city of Cairo to Suez, Port Said, and Al Fayyum. The Highways in Egypt, immensely contributes to the growth of tourism in Egypt. The presence of these highways make it possible for tourists to move from one place to another, easily and conveniently. Though the roads and highways are still not well maintained, the administration is taking measures to improve the conditions of the roads and highways. Bad roads and highways can hamper the growth of tourism in the country. Most of the tourists come to Egypt to visit the city of Cairo, the great pyramids and the other sites known for its rich historical past.

The bad condition of the roads has often lead to accidents and the government is trying to improve that in order to curtail the number of accidents happening on the Highways. The most significant highway network in the country of Egypt is the Trans-African Highway network, and two routes of this network originate in the city of Cairo.
