Ports and harbors

There are a number of Ports and harbors in the country of Egypt, and this is mainly because of the presence of major waterways and water bodies in and around Egypt. The Ports and harbors are generally located by the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Nile River. These harbors and ports in the country of Egypt facilitate trade transactions as well as passenger transportation. Known all over the world as the gift of Nile, the country of Egypt is basically served by the various water bodies in and around it. The ports and harbors form a very integral part of the transportation network in Egypt.

The noted Ports and harbors in Egypt are Alexandria Port, Damietta Port, Port Said Port, Marsa Matruh, Suez Port, Adabieh Port, Hurghada Port, Sikhna Port, Al-Tour Port, Safaga Port, Noueibah Port, Petroleum Dock Port and Sham El-Sheikh Port, Asyut and Aswan. The first four is by the Mediterranean Sea, the next nine by the Red Sea, and the last two facilitate transportation on the Nile river.

The Port of Alexandria is located on the Nile Delta's West Verge, within the Mariut Lake and the Mediterranean Sea. This port is considered to be the primary port in the country of Egypt, handling more than three quarters of the country's foreign transactions in trade. There are two harbors in this noted port, the East harbor and the West harbor. As the East harbor is quite shallow, it is not used for navigational purposes. Commercial shipping and trading is primarily carried out through the West harbor. Port Said Port, is another major port in the country of Egypt. The Main channel is 8 km in length and 13.72 m in depth. The East Verge channel is 19.5 km long and 18.29 m deep.

The Suez Port is also very important port in the country of Egypt. It is situated on Suez Canal's southern boundary, bordered by an imaginary line originating from Ras-El-Adabieh and continuing till Moussa, at the canal's entrance. To the west of the city of Alexandria, lies the Marsa Matruh sea port by the Mediterranean Sea. Lying at a distance of 70 kilometers from Port Said, is Damietta Port. This too is among the noted Ports and harbors in Egypt.

All these ports and harbors facilitate the growth of the country through trade and transaction. They connect the country with other nations around the world, and create a healthy relationship.
