The best time to visit Egypt is during Winter and Spring, from mid-October to May. May to October is peaceful and ensures less crowd, but very warm. It's best to carry clothes of materials that breathe. Cotton is the best option while traveling in Egypt during summer. Wearing layered clothing, which can be relieved off in pieces during warm daytime and put back on during cool nights, is a wise idea.
Most major credit cards and debit cards, including American Express, MasterCard, Visa, all Euro cards and JCB, are accepted in Egypt. One can use Visa, MasterCard and Cirrus cards to draw money from ATMs. Cash can also be drawn from any of the Misr Bank branches. Banks in Egypt might refuse to accept Scottish pounds, Irish punts, New Zealand dollars and $100 notes issued before 1992. Tourists can conveniently convert $US, ŁUK or Euros in banks etc., at a much higher rate! Western Union branches are present all over the place one can take resort to if one needs to have money sent from abroad.
While traveling in Egypt, it is best to avoid specific areas, like the center of the Nile Valley, specially Minia, Asyout and Sohag. These areas are prone to upheavals caused by Islamic fundamentalists.
As Egypt is Muslim dominated, tourists should pay respect to the conservative Muslim culture and avoid revealing clothes and public displays of affection. Male tourists should avoid approaching Egyptian women. Handsome tipping, though not compulsory, is expected for extra efforts or services and makes Egyptians happy. However, professionals and those who consider to be the equals of the tipper, may be offended if offered tips. Tourists should leave their shoes outside when visiting mosques and enter barefooted or in canvas overshoes available in some mosques.
Egypt travel tips must include warnings against using tap water for drinking. It's best to stick to bottled water for drinking and use tap water only for washing, brushing etc, as tap water is highly chlorinated. Fruits and vegetables, when washed properly, are not only highly nutritious, but extremely tasteful.

If the tourists happen to strike up an acquaintance with an Egyptian, he might be invited for a meal at the Egyptian's home. It's customary to refuse the first time one is asked. If the invitation is repeated, it's cordial to accept. An Egyptian will also do the same. A tourist can repay the invitation by taking the Egyptian to a restaurant for a meal.
