Al-Fayyum University is one of the public universities in the city of Al Fayyum which is the capital of Al Fayyum Governorate. The governorate is situated in the northern part of Egypt. The university was established in the year 1983. at that time the university was a branch of Cairo University. At the time the university, Al-Fayyum University had just college of education, college of education, college of Agriculture and he college of engineering.
Afterwards the number of colleges and faculties increased. In the year 2005, Al-Fayyum University was separated from Cairo University. After its separation the university set up the faculty of Medicine and the faculty of archeology. Professor Galal Mostafa became the first president of Al-Fayyum University.
